This morning, Audrey was diagnosed with Necrotizing Enterolitis (NEC) which is a serious issue with her intestines. This resulted in her doctors deciding that she needed to be under the care of a surgeon in addition to the normal NICU staff, so she was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Because of this condition, they need to stop all oral feeding and revert to IV feedings. They removed the tube that ran thru her nose into her stomach that was used for feeding, and replaced it with a tube down her throat into her stomach which is constantly removing the ‘stuff’ that is backing up from her intestines. They have also thrown three antibiotics at her in an effort to knock out the NEC. They monitor her progress via abdominal X-rays every 6 hours. Children generally indicate within the first 24 hours if the antibiotics will work. If they don’t, they will need to operate. Set aside, but not forgotten, is her heart issue…
We are praying for you believing the Lord will strengthen you daily. His mercies are new every morning and He will equipe you moment by moment. We love you. We know that Audrey Maria is in good hands, because her heavenly Father is holding her in the palm of His hand and He is comforting and covering her with His love, just as He is with each one of you.
