Diagnosis

Yesterday we officially learned what we had suspected (and feared) was the case. Audrey Maria has Trisomy 18 – which is “a genetic disorder associated with the presence of extra material for chromosome 18”. It explains the health problems she has endured thus far – and also means her time with us will probably be very brief. Today she is being transferred back to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek so she can be closer to home. (Because of her condition, no surgeries will be performed which was the reason she was moved to Children’s.) It is possible she may come home in a few days. We will be working out those details with the doctors in the next day or two. Sara and I continue to be appreciative of your prayers – and all of the assistance we are receiving from family and friends. Email is probably the best way to communicate as we can then read and reply when we are able to do so.

There are difficult days ahead – but we continue to move forward in faith, finding comfort in our Father’s perfect love, knowing His hand is upon our family. We are grateful for Audrey, for who and what she is, and we are grateful that we have been blessed to have her as a part of our family.

Precious Audrey seems like quite a little fighter to me as she has overcome so much already to be a member of your family. Don’t dwell on the things you might never get to do with her, just be grateful for the time you have. We don’t know what God’s plan is for us, but His love is perfect and she couldn’t be in better hands.

I love what the little boy said in his prayers on the previous page of comments – to please let Audrey get well so she can go home with her Momma…

    You are in my prayers,
    Susan Clark

    Dear Sara, Sam and kids,

I learned about the test results with Audrey through my daughter, Briana, and Lori Myers. I am praying for you all and will continue to do so. Our newest granddaughter has just gone through difficult heart surgery at 4 weeks old, so I understand just a tiny bit of what you are going through. My prayer is that God will give you rich times with Audrey, and that she will be a light to Him during her life here. You are being prayed for in South Carolina, and I will ask others in our church family out here to pray.

    Love, prayers and hugs,
    Terry Soule

  14. The Carrero's says:

    Sara, Rachel and family,
This is not the news we were expecting to hear. I do not even know what to say that can possibly do a thing to comfort your hearts and spirits. Just know we are praying for you all and are here in anyway we can be. May Jesus surround you all with His love, peace, and comfort at this incredible time of mixed emotions. Audrey is so special and has already touched so many hearts.
    Love and prayers,

  15. Jesi Pitzer says:

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
    Phil. 4:4-8

    You’re in our prayers-
    Jesi Pitzer & fam
