October 9th Update

Posted · 6 Comments

Today was a bit of a mixed bag – that ended well. The good news is that the antibiotics appear to be working and the NEC is clearing up. Audrey will remain on IV feeding only for probably 2 weeks – but surgery (at least for now) has been averted. The challenge of the day was to get the IV into her that will be her source of nutrition. Because of the volume and duration it needs to be a ‘deep’ IV – set into a large vein. They tried for over 3 hours – sticking her literally from head to toe. In the end they had to put her under general anesthesia and put the IV in her chest. But she came thru that OK and now they have it set with two tubes – one to draw blood and another for feeding, so the poking should be over for a while. She is proving to be very resilient and strong in spite of all they are putting her thru. She was in some obvious discomfort today so they gave her a little morphine which should help. She is down to about 4 lb 11 oz – but should begin to put some weight back on as the IV feeding progresses.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! I remember so many years ago when my Jared needed to have an IV and the only spot they could find was in his scalp – and he was a plump 10 months old! I can’t imagine what tiny Audrey has had to put up with, but the LORD is so faithful. Thank you for sharing the Very Good news and we’re praying the antibiotics continue to do their job and that the Lord will continue to mend her little body until she is strong enough for home and surgery.
I’m especially praying for you Sara as I can only imagine you are caught with wanting to just be home but not wanting to leave Audrey’s side. Please remember (what I know you already know) that this is only for a season and the LORD knows the desires of your heart.

    With much love,

My Jeff had to have an IV when he was 10 months and they had to put his in his scalp also. They look so pitiful. I can only imagine what this has put all of you through – blessed little baby girl to have to have such poking and prodding. It sounds like she’s getting better though. Remember, if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Much Love and you all are in my prayers,
    Susan Clark

Sara ~ we miss you in CBS and pray for you, Audrey and the rest of your family every week. My 2 year old son prays for her before bed every night and tonight, after I read your most recent blog to him, he said “Dear Jesus, make baby Audrey not have anymore shots and go home to be with Mommy soon, okay?” I love the simplicity of his prayers. 🙂
We don’t know you or your family well, but we’ve come to love you all through this blog and through our prayers. God bless you!

  6. Brenda says:

How great the good Thou hast reserved for all those fearing Thee. Bestowed on those who trust Thee still that sons of men may see. Thou has a hiding place for them, safe from the snares of man; Thy shelter from the strife of tongues for them Thou dost maintain. O let Jehovah blessed be! For He has magnified His steadfast love to me within a city fortified. Although I said in my alarm, “I’m cut off from Thine eyes!” Yet Thou, when I petitioned Thee, hast heard my pleading cries.
We’re praying psalm 31 ‘the refuge psalm’. Love, the Davises
